Adamley Fabric
Regular readers may recall a post I wrote in October about the Macclesfield tie. The tie in question was made from fabric by Adamley. So yesterday, I received a lovely message from none other than Joanne, the Design Director at Adamley. Joanne actually designed the label below. Fancy that!
Joanne has very kindly invited me along to the factory to see the manufacturing process first hand and look through their archives. I’ll be taking lots of photographs too so please stay tuned as this will all be featured here very soon.
Adamley are based just outside Macclesfield in a village called Langley. They specialise in hand printed goods for the mens market and have an extensive archive that’s over a hundred years old. They make all the screens in-house, dye, print and dispatch from the same building. I can’t wait to pay them a visit!
In the meantime, I urge to you to visit the Adamley website to find out more or find them on Facebook.

How nice that they contacted you and invited you for a visit, Louise. Sounds like it will be quite an interesting time. Looking forward to hearing more!
Thanks Marjorie. I’m planning to visit at the end of this month. Really looking forward to it. Manufacturing like this is a dying craft. I’m keen to find out more and spread the word.
What a great opportunity to see and document this factory! So, did she find you through the blog?
Yes indeed. One of the girls in the Adamley office found my blog about the Macclesfield tie made with their fabric. I loved the paisley design on the fabric and the label caught my eye – and I just had to bring it home. You know the feeling!
I’ve just read your piece on your visit to The Oriole Mill which is fascinating stuff! It will be interesting to compare the manufacturing processes and scale of works. I can’t imagine seeing giant spools there but who knows? I’ll make sure I take lots of photographs.
It’s good to know that my little blog is being discovered out there in the bloggosphere!
It always amazes me when that happens. The internet is so huge, but at the same time so small, if you know what I mean. I love bumping into interesting people and companies via the web!
